Morning is the best of all times in the garden. The sun is not yet hot.
Sweet vapors rise from the earth. Night dew clings to the soil and makes
plants glisten. Birds call to one another. Bees are already at work."

Golden Rave Sauce Tomatoes...
I *hear* there has been a heat wave out there and many of you guys are sweating it out. I'd be happy to borrow a little of your sunshine so I don't have so many green tomatoes again like last year...

Oh, what a week.
It should be common practice to make sure your cat is not asleep behind your tire when you back out of the driveway.
Or she will come home from the hospital with one fewer legs than she had before.
But she is a trooper, that girl. Lot's of treats, lots of pain meds that hake her loopy. Lots of love. Lots of guilt. But it could have been a lot worse.
We are just happy she is back home again.

The carrots are in! We decided on a rainbow blend this year...but didn't get too many other than orange.
We also planted twice as many as last year because we wanted to make more of these insanely addictive pickled carrots.
We had some mutant specimens this year too...interesting...
And I was sad to tear these two apart...
But they had a purpose. And it was delicious.
How 'bout you guys? How does your garden grow this year?

I live a hip, foodie town. Brazen I know, but both Cooking Light and Sunset agree. If you are a Cooking Light fan the you saw this article on Portland's food truck movement.
Luckily we have a food truck pod by my office and let me tell you, they can do some amazing things in a tiny space.
Lardo is.............................................................. I'm speechless it's so good.
Have food truck pods taken off where you live? Or is this just a Portland phenomenon. Seriously, there are pods everywhere here...
