You can buy lavender buds at some craft stores or anywhere that sells dried herbs. If you grow lavender at home, harvest it when they have just bloomed. I got to mine a little late I think but they still smell great so I'm drying them anyway!
Cut them about six inches down from the flowers and use rubber bands to hold the bunches together. Store in a cool dry place. I use my cool, dry basement. I also put a sheet underneath them as they dry to catch any loose buds and once the buds are dry enough I store them in glass jars.
I found a quilt top and this embroidered piece at a thrift store so that is what I'm using to make my lavender pillows. But you can use any light weight fabric.
Cut out your fabric to the desired shape and size. Sandwich your loop of ribbon inside the pieces of fabric and pin in place. Right sides together, sew the pieces together but leave remember to leave an opening so you can fill the pillow.
Mix your lavender and flax seeds together. The flax gives your pillow nice weight. I don't use a recipe for this I just use what I have on hand and mix until I like the ratio. If you want you can add a couple drops of essential oil to intensify the lavender scent. Spoon the lavender mixture into the pillow and hand sew the opening closed.
Make sure the ribbon is right side out and is sewn to the top of the pillow! Ugh!
These can be tucked into dresser drawers, hung in the bathroom and I keep one in my car.
